My Valentine to You

I'm sending you lots of love this Valentine’s Day and hope you will take some time to show yourself and those around you a little bit of love and kindness too. I especially want you to show your heart some love today as it is also Heart Month and Go Red for Women.
Did you know this hard-working muscle can beat around 3 billion times over your lifetime?
Pretty amazing, right? Your heart deserves as much support as you can give it to keep it strong because every 40 seconds, someone in the US has a heart attack. And every 37 seconds in the US, someone dies from cardiovascular disease.
It’s also the top killer in Australia, Canada, and many parts of Europe.
I'm not trying to scare you but these statistics are very real. Thankfully, you can do some very simple things to take good care of your heart and reduce your risk!
For a healthy heart …
→ Eat more plants. Start by eating an extra veggie or fruit every day!
→ Fill up on fish. The cold-water kind like salmon is rich in heart-healthy omega 3 fatty acids.
→ Sweat and lift. both cardio and strength training exercise can help keep your heart strong.
→ Snack smart: Raw nuts instead of sugary, processed foods (i.e., chips and cookies).
→ Shake the surgary drinks like flavored lattes and soda. Drink water instead.
→ Breathe and meditate. These can help lower blood pressure.
→ Everyday, be grateful for something. Gratitude is linked with better heart health.
